About Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church
--------------------------------------------------------------

Ethiopia, the land of Judeo-Christianity, is one of the most ancient predominantly Christian countries of the world. It is marked with a fascinating history, unique civilization, culture and religious life. The Book of Genesis recounts: “And the name of the second river is Ghion: the same is it that compasses the whole land of Ethiopia” (Geneses 2:13). The Psalmist David also says: “Let Ethiopia hasten to stretch out her hands to God” (Psalms 68:31).

St. Yared Sacred Instruments Ministry

"Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!"

Psalm 150:3-4

Welcome

Welcome to the St. Yared Sacred Instruments Ministry. Named after the father of Ethiopic hymnody, Saint Yared, this ministry is dedicated to preserving the sacred hymnological heritage of our Church.

We are committed to teaching the youth (ages 13+) the spiritual discipline of our traditional instruments. While our foundation is built on the Begena (Harp of David), our vision is to equip the next generation with the skills to master the Kebero, Masinqo, Krar, Washenet, and Tsenatsil. Our goal is to ensure that the praises of God continue to be offered with skill, understanding, and reverence.

Mission & Vision

Our Mission:

To preserve the ancient tradition of Saint Yared and Saint David by equipping the next generation to sing praises (Mezmur) with understanding and skill.

Future Vision:

While we begin with the Begena, our vision is to expand to other traditional instruments of the Church, ensuring the fullness of our hymnody is preserved.
