About Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church
--------------------------------------------------------------

Ethiopia, the land of Judeo-Christianity, is one of the most ancient predominantly Christian countries of the world. It is marked with a fascinating history, unique civilization, culture and religious life. The Book of Genesis recounts: “And the name of the second river is Ghion: the same is it that compasses the whole land of Ethiopia” (Geneses 2:13). The Psalmist David also says: “Let Ethiopia hasten to stretch out her hands to God” (Psalms 68:31).

Social Work Ministry

"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." - Matthew 25:40

Our Mission: Faith in Action

The Social Work Ministry of Menbere Berhan St. Mary EOTC is dedicated to putting our faith into action by serving the practical and spiritual needs of our community. Guided by the teachings of Our Lord Jesus Christ, we strive to be His hands and feet in the world, offering compassion, support, and tangible help to all those in need, regardless of their background.

We believe in uplifting our brothers and sisters, whether they are newcomers to Canada, families facing hardship, the elderly, or the sick. Our goal is to build a stronger, more supportive community rooted in Orthodox Christian love and service (Diakonia).

What We Do (Our Programs):

Our ministry provides a confidential and compassionate lifeline. Key areas of our service include:

  • Newcomer & Settlement Support: Assisting new families and individuals with orientation, translation, and connecting them to essential resources in Toronto.

  • Pastoral & Wellness Care: Visiting the sick, the elderly, and those in hospitals or long-term care facilities to provide prayer, comfort, and Holy Communion.

  • Community Food Bank: Organizing and distributing food and essential household items to individuals and families facing food insecurity.

  • Counseling & Referrals: Providing confidential spiritual guidance (in coordination with our clergy) and referring individuals to professional community and mental health services when needed.

  • Benevolence & Crisis Support: Offering temporary, emergency assistance to community members facing sudden financial crises or hardship.
